The Delta variant has added a new level of uncertainty to a world that at times feels like we’ve jumped down the rabbit hole of an Alice in Wonderland spinoff complete with magical twists and turns. Mad hatters and cheshire cats dot our daily lives in various ways. Humans are social creatures and in 18 months of perfecting our self-isolation practices (which may have included the art of baking bread) the fact remains that daily communication is deeply entrenched in our societies.
Today many of our communications are taking place over Zoom calls and other video platforms. We’re connecting over the internet more than we ever have before. Our social interactions are more global – often crossing borders over video from the safety or comfort of our home offices. We’re telling stories, making meaningful connections, closing deals and maintaining relationships while forging new ones all without taking a train, car or plane. No matter where you are the world is a little different today. More than ever before meeting hardware matters. Great collaboration equipment eases the pains of connecting virtually. Transmitting our voices, our faces, our inflections and expressions through the web allows us to keep connecting, keep telling stories.

The distance is shorter. The horizon is in some ways more broad – the experience both greater and more miniscule. While the downsides abound there are upsides to this battle; a smaller carbon footprint, greater attention to our communications and our relationships, simple connections over internet versus a day's travel, and a much larger network than our ancestor cave people could have perhaps ever imagined. Maybe you can't taste the churros con chocolate in Spain this year but you can still connect with friends, family, colleagues and clients in the simplest of ways.
